Elevated to the maximum expression, those of GAZOO Racing have just unveiled the sportiest and most brutal option of the new sports version of the compact. The new Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition reaches the wildest level, and the most desired, in a limited and exclusive edition that will hit the market throughout 2022.
A few months ago, Toyota took an important step forward by entering fully into a market category in which it had not been present for many years, that of the sportiest compacts, presenting the third model to come out of the GAZOO Racing workshops: the new Toyota GR Corolla. A true top-of-the-range version, and as desired as expected throughout the world, although it is unknown if it will reach the Old Continent or will only remain for sale in the United States and Japan.
But those of GAZOO Racing from Motomachi, Japan, have complied with one of the requests of the president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda. who had not ended up very satisfied with this sports variant of the Corolla, so they have just presented another more radical one, that of the exclusive Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition with qualities and characteristics that transform it into a true performance machine. The Japanese have followed in the footsteps of the extinct Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, a model with which it has much in common.
Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition
Aesthetically, it does not present variations with the conventional GR Corolla beyond the exclusive paint Matt “Steel Grey” and gloss black accents or red painted brake calipers, but under the body there are important developments. The main one is the weight savings applied, reducing the figure of the scale by 30 kilograms to 1,440 kilograms thanks to the use of aluminum in the hood and door panel, while the roof is carbon fiber. The tires are special for this version, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup size 245/40 R18.
Secondly, the rear bench has been eliminated and replaced by a rigid piece and also the sound system.either. The GR Corolla Morizo Edition only has two seats, with two front bucket seats with integrated headrests upholstered in black leather and contrast stitching, a color also present in the marking at 12 o’clock on the nappa-wrapped steering wheel. The instrument panel is digital and has a 12.3-inch screen that shows information as relevant as the turbo pressure, among others.
The Japanese have also retouched the engine to offer extra performance in the engine of three-cylinder and 1.6-liter turbo, developing a maximum power of 304 hp and 400 Nm. A small increase in the maximum torque that has also led to a readjustment of the gear ratios, shortening the first, second and third. The “GR-Four” drive system is standard, as are the two “Torsen” differentials that equip front and rear adjustable in ratios 60:40, 30:70 and 50:50. A real machine that, for now, is a prototype, but of which it is planned to sell only 200 numbered units for the fastest interested.
