The Tinder scammer is the new Netflix production that is causing a stir in the world by showing the way in which a man manipulates female emotions to obtain material goods and live at the expense of it.
Although the plot seems to come from a Hollywood script, it is real and there are many doubts about the main character, Simon Leviev, who did not tempt his heart when it came to lying, stealing and manipulating even bosses and friends. Here we tell you more about it.
Simon Leviev was born in the city of Bnei Brak, located east of Tel Aviv, in Israel, under the name of Shimon Hayut. Years later he changed his name to have the same last name as Lev Leviev, a Russian-Israeli businessman dedicated to the diamond business and with whom Simon is not related.
At age 20, Simon stole checks from a family he worked with as a babysitter and later from a family he worked with as handymen to buy a Porsche and take flying lessons. In addition, he scammed a schoolmate, convincing him to invest in a clothing business that turned out to be fake. In 2011 he was formally charged with theft, forgery and fraud, but fled to Finland before his trial. In that country he began to use social networks to meet women, cheat them and live at their expense.
On Tinder he met the Norwegian Cecilie Fjellhøy, who discovered that Simon was a scammer when he already owed more than 250 thousand dollars to nine different banks in the United Kingdom. Desperate for her situation, she went to the most important newspaper in the country and the reporters managed to unmask the scammer, who added more victims to his list.
The news went viral and so Ayleen Charlotte appeared, a young woman who had been dating Simon for 14 months and who was a key player in the impostor being arrested in 2019 for carrying a false passport.
Despite the evidence against him, Simon was only extradited to Israel, a country where he was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of the crimes committed in 2011, but not for fraud against his Tinder victims, since that there is no complaint against him for these charges.
He is currently free and although he tried to resume the old ruse of deception, Tinder and Instagram have already blocked their respective accounts, as they will not allow him to continue with his scams.
We have conducted internal investigations and can confirm that Simon Leviev is no longer active on Tinder under any of his known aliases.
