We know that dogs are a member of the family and their education is very important. Today we show you three easy tricks to carry out that will challenge your pet both physically and mentally. Far from just entertaining, these exercises will help strengthen the bond between the two.
give the paw
Here is one of the most common tricks for dogs that can serve as a basis for other exercises in the long run. Giving the paw may seem very easy to learn, but the truth is that it requires patience, time and some reward snacks -basic-. That is why we will order them to sit down and we will kneel in front of them to keep up. With the palm of the hand we will raise one of its legs and pronounce the key word aloud (in this case “give me your paw” or “paw”). We will repeat the whole process until our dog does it on his own, that is where we will give him the prize/treat.
Another way to achieve this is by hiding a snack in our hand and bringing it closer to its snout. By smelling it, he may want to find out what it is and use his paws to find out. If he puts his paw on the hand where we have the prize, we give him the reward while clearly pronouncing “give me the paw” (or whatever keyword we decide to use for this trick). AnimalWised advises putting these tricks into practice for about 15 minutes a day, looking for a quiet area and avoiding punishment.
Get on two legs
Getting down on two legs while our dog is sitting, here is another very popular trick that will help him maintain his balance. Like the trick of giving the paw, this one begins by making our pet sit down, but we will do it near a wall (it will serve as a guide and help). Once seated, we will show him the prize and lacerate his head with our hands. The ideal is not to raise your hand too much since it is possible that our dog wants to get up suddenly.
As soon as our pet straightens up a bit and raises its two front legs, we have to take the opportunity to pronounce the order out loud (“stand up” or “two legs” is the most common). As a reward, we will give you the snack we have in hand. If you do not understand what we are asking of you and get up, we will order you to sit down and repeat the process until you do.
roll or wallow
Here is a trick with a difficult level of difficulty -but not for that reason impossible-. It is a position in a submissive posture hence it costs more to achieve. After giving him the command to sit, we will show him the treat we have in our hand and let him smell it without actually giving it to him. With the hand near the snout, we will slowly lower the snack to the ground until the dog follows us with its head.
Once his head points down, we’ll move the hand with the treat across the floor to get his body down as well. This is where we have to say the order out loud so that our pet understands it (it can be “lie down” or “grave”). Once we achieve it, we will congratulate him with affection, joy and giving him the well-deserved award.
