The 25-year-old swimmer was rescued by her coach, the Spanish Andrea Fuentes, who jumped into the water dressed in shorts and a t-shirtto get it to the surface with his arms.
“I think he was at least two minutes without breathing because his lungs were full of water,” the coach later said.
Alvarez had to pass a full medical exam on Friday morningexplained a representative of the International Federation (FINA), who said he did not know the result of that test.
This was not the first time that the swimmer had fainted in competition. She already had to be rescued last year during a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games held in Barcelona.
