The new Subaru Solterra is the first electric mass of the Japanese brand, which will arrive in Europe in 2022. A technology that the firm also intends to bring to the sports versions with the acronym STI, and that has already been advanced in advance with the Subaru Solterra STI Concept at the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show.
2022 will be the year of electrics. A large part of the manufacturers have already presented the zero emission models that will arrive throughout this year, and the Subaru Solterra is one of them. A crossover with which they will attack segment D, built on a specific Toyota platform, the “e-Subaru Global Platform”.
With different versions of power and battery capacity, the Japanese firm will bring electric technology to the level of the sportiest versions that the brand likes so much, and especially those of «Subaru Technica International». These have been the ones who have presented the Subaru Solterra STI Concept in the framework of Tokyo Motor Show 2022, proving that a high-performance electric crossover is so perfectly feasible that we wouldn’t mind it at all.
Subaru Solterra STI Concept, with the seal of the sports division
The Subaru Solterra STI Concept is presented with a more aggressive aesthetic. The conceptual preview sports the new interpretation of the hexagonal grill typical of the Japanese brand but completely closed and a new bumper that ditches the usual crossover skid plate for a prominent spoiler. An aerodynamic detail that also looks at the end of the roof, above the tailgate.
Subaru has paid special attention to these unique details decorated in an attractive cherry red color that makes them stand out, as does the side skirts or the insert on the black painted alloy wheels. The “STI” logo appears on the sides of the rear spoiler. The Japanese firm has only revealed images of the attractive exterior, but none of the interior, although it does has indicated that it presents a series of specific adjustments.
A concept car of which, for now, there are no signs that it will materialize and get the green light for production. The brand will wait a few months to observe the behavior of the new electric crossover on the market, before granting this special sportier version that has all the arguments to make authentic delights, thanks to a pair of powerful electric motors and an all-wheel drive system.
