Final Fantasy XV had its launch in 2016 in the hands of Business Division 2, but a new version puts Eidos Montreal as a possible frustrated developer. Read more here!
There is no doubt that final-fantasy is one of the sagas of RPG most loved by fans. The game of squareenix, which first arrived in 1987, had several titles throughout its history, and also many that we don’t know about. One of those unknown games is Final Fantasy XVbut not the original game released in 2016, but a version of Eidos Montréal.
We know this thanks to a recent TrueAchievements interview conducted with Jonathan Jacque Belleteteformer art director of Eidos Montréal. In this interview, Jack gave some details of what was the failed production of that Final Fantasy XV.
There was no lack of comings and goings in the launch of Final Fantasy XV, game that had more than 10 years of development. In that time there was also a near-complete reset on the game’s creation, at which point Square Enix almost gave full control to Eidos Montréal in 2012. As we well know, that ultimately did not happen and the game was officially released in 2016 with the development of Business Division 2 and address of Hajime Tabata.
“Eidos Montreal brought Deus Ex back. I was the art director on Deus Ex: Human Revolution,” Jacque-Belletête explained to TrueAchievements about her time at the studio. “Later [yo era] the executive art director on Mankind Divided. After that we tried to do Final Fantasy XV. Then they decided to bring it back to Japan, which I think was a huge mistake, but it’s still the truth. ours was really cool“.
This is not the first time we have heard about a draft Final Fantasy XV made by Eidos Montréal. In the year 2018, a youtuber named super bunny hop mentioned that Eidos Montréal had some of “basic art and basic design”. Besides, bunnyhop named a story related to a love triangle. We don’t know if this is true, but the fact that Belletete confirmed at least the intention on the part of eidos to create a FF, makes us unable to dismiss what was said by BunnyHop.
If you have succeeded, Eidos Montréal would have become the first western developer of a main title of final-fantasy. While we draw conclusions about how this would have been FF of a love triangle, we can also speculate on FFXVI, which according to Naoki Yoshida is very close.
