He reality of competition of The squid game is here. A show in which contestants complete challenges—which obviously won’t be deadly—to win a large sum of money, just like in the original series. But what does Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of the South Korean phenomenon, think about the new Show in the service catalog streaming of the red “N”?
This is what Hwang Dong-hyuk thinks about the reality show The Squid Game: The Challenge
Hwang won an Emmy for Best Directing in a Drama Series at the 2022 Emmy Awards and, after winning the statuette, he took the podium backstage to answer questions from the press. There, he revealed that he met with the producer of the aforementioned spin-offand it seems that the meeting left him thinking several things, as he expressed concern about the way in which the complicated themes of his original product would be transferred to the “real” format (via TVLine).
“What I hope is that they continue with my vision and intention as much as possible for the program“said the director.
When the production was announced, numerous comments were unleashed that pointed to the fact that it is strange that they are thinking of making a game show based on another program that is based on a strong criticism of capitalism itself. Regarding this, he had the following to say:
“I think that, although our show has a pretty strong message—and I know there are some concerns about taking that message and turning it into a reality show with prize money—when you take things too seriously, it’s not really the best way to operate in the entertainment industry. Doesn’t set a good precedent”.
And I add:
“So I would say that reproductions of such efforts are going to bring new meaning to the industry, and I hope it will be a great new direction for the industry in general.”

José Roberto Landaverde I am fascinated by writing, listening, reading and commenting on everything related to cinema. I love music and I am a fan of The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Paramore. My favorite movies are Rocky and Back to the Future and obviously one day I will climb the “Philly Steps” and drive a DeLorean. Faithful believer that cinema is the best teleporting machine, and also that on the big screen we can all see ourselves represented.
