What happens if you are one of the most successful pilots in history and you want to buy something that could generate a certain clash of interests with the companies that accompany you? Well, something like that happened to him, nothing more and nothing less, than to Michael Schumacher and in TORK, we’ll tell you about it…
Michael Schumacher (Germany, January 3, 1969) is a former German racing driver. He has won seven Formula 1 world championships: two with the Benetton team in 1994 and 1995, and five with Ferrari between 2000 and 2004, thereby surpassing the five championships won by Juan Manuel Fangio.
On December 29, 2013, while enjoying the Christmas holidays with his family, he suffered a very serious accident hitting his head while skiing in the French winter resort of Méribel (in Les Allues, Savoie, French Alps), while skiing off-piste. Since then, the real state of his health is unknown, since the family hardly gives any information about it.
Being a Formula 1 driver catapults you to fame, there is no doubt about that. Therefore, you know that during many moments you have to take care of the forms, not only so as not to upset your fans, but also (and, mainly) in the companies that support you. This was a position from which Schumi could not be exempt.
Let’s go back in time to the year 2004, possibly the year of greatest world exposure of the German in his entire career in F1. Who was one of the highest paid athletes in the world had multiple contractsbut the best known, without a doubt, was the one that linked him to ferrariThe dominance of the Kaiser with the Escudería during the first years of the 21st century (five titles between 2000 and the aforementioned 2004) did nothing but mark the association between the two, so that at that time it was unimaginable to associate it with another automaker.
It turns out that in that 2004, “Schumi” decided to take a license and add to his garage a machine that did not come from Maranello, but was as German as he was: a Porsche Carrera GT. The Carrera GT was born after developments carried out by Porsche for the world of racing. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is driven by a 5.7L V10 gasoline enginewhich dispenses 603 hp and who works with a six-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive, this convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9s and reaches 200 km/h in 10s, while its top speed is 330km/h.
