The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, signed an agreement that seeks to train and raise awareness about digital municipal and financial services and the risks associated with these applications.
Alejandra Kindelán, the president of the Spanish Banking Association, indicated that This training will also serve for citizens to know the use and access to municipal digital services.
Among the campaigns that are part of the agreement, are awareness raising about safer practices when operating with technological applications, and thus try to minimize the risks of cyber fraud that are carried out in Spain.
In this sense, the mayor of Madrid has indicated that: “citizens are unaware of what type of digital operations can be carried out and the security conditions they offer”; In addition, he added that the agreement will serve to: “clear up many doubts and progress will continue in the digital transformation of the city”.
He also indicated that the municipalities “They are the administrations closest to the citizens and, therefore, those in which they place the most trust”, He also added that this formation “It will allow us to reach all the groups that may feel furthest away from the opportunities offered by financial institutions in the digital sphere.”.
This agreement is not surprising, since data in Spain show that cybercrime continues to grow exponentially. As we have previously announced on Cointelegraph, statistics show that the “80% of cybercrimes go unreported, and this encourages an increase in cyberfraud. Without reporting, there is no cybercrime. It is everyone’s obligation to report cybercrimes to protect others. We are all responsible against cybercrime”.
It is laudable that these agreements are encouraged by the municipal organization, so that in this way significant changes can be achieved in the numbers that are currently counted at the national level. In fact, companies dedicated to providing online security services, agencies and experts agree that one of the paths to follow to combat cybercrime is education on cybersecurity.
In this regard, the president of the Spanish Banking Association indicated that: “The objective is that devices such as mobiles and tablets, which are already part of our daily lives, are considered as a tool that makes life easier for us, not as a barrier or a source of risks.”.
