The life simulation franchise The Sims has always been at the forefront in many fields. Without going any further, the title of Maxis bet from its inception that the characters could maintain sentimental and sexual relationships with any sim, regardless of their gender. Now, going one step further, The Sims 4 will allow you to choose your sexual orientation in its next free update, as explained by the IGN portal. It will be added to the Electronic Arts video game as a new feature on the sim creation screen that does not seek to restrict at all, but rather to continue to evolve and adapt to current times.
According to Maxis, this new option in the creation menu will have three sections in which we will have to choose what genders attract romantically to your sim, what genders attract sexually to your sim and if your sim could be interested in exploring attraction to other genres. Maxis also explains that the idea is to continue to delve into this concept in the future, including new gender identities to add sims who identify as non-binary. However, given the current limitations in which the game is confined at the moment, it is not possible right now.

Maxis defends the addition of this new feature by pointing out that you can ignore it, but not disable it, just like “LGBTQIA+ identities are a fact of life and there is no switch to turn them on or off.” The free update will arrive at the end of this same month of July along with the new expansion High School Yearswhich will allow us to delve into life at the institute and be able to continue playing with our teenage sims when they are in school.
