The ‘Alien’ television series is still in production, and although it will not start shooting until next year, the president of FX John Landgraf He has already given more details about the setting and promises that there will be several surprises.
There are no more aliens until 2023
Disney’s purchase of Fox put a few projects in the freezer, but it also allowed the House of Mouse to get their hands on several juicy studio franchises. One of the chosen ones was ‘Alien’since back in 2020 it was announced that there is a television series in development inspired by the science fiction saga.
We’ll still have to wait a little longer for the ‘Alien’ series, which will be directed and scripted by Noah Hawley (‘Fargot’). Still, thanks to the Television Critics Association press tour, we’ve been able to get some new insights into the state of production.
input, the series will not start recording until 2023since right now Hawley’s priority is the shooting of the fifth season of ‘Fargo’ despite the fact that the script for the ‘Alien’ series would be more advanced.
“We have to shoot ‘Fargo’ this winter, so we’re going to shoot it before ‘Alien,’ even though we have more scripts for ‘Alien than Fargo,'” FX president John Landgraf explained during the TCA tour. “Noah [Hawley] he’s writing both right now.
With this calendar so far away, a possible release date has not yet been set. What the creators have revealed is that the ‘Alien’ series will serve as a prequel to the original film and that will be set on Earth in the late 21st century, some 70 years into our future.
The series does not have the classics
The ‘Alien’ series is completely detached from the movies, at least for now, and according to Landgraf Neither Ripley nor other characters we’ve seen previously in the franchise will appear.
“I can tell you that Ripley will not be a part of the series, and neither will any of the other characters apart from the alien himself,” Landgraf confirmed. “Noah has an incredible ability to be faithful and honest with an original creation, like with the Coen brothers or with the Ridley Scott movie and the James Cameron sequels… But he can also bring something new to the table that represents an extension and a reinvention of the franchise at the same time. He’s done an amazing job with ‘Alien’ just like he did with ‘Fargo,’ there are a lot of surprises in store for audiences.”
On your side, Ridley Scott is still not linked to the projectand already assured a few months ago that he does not think that the series will be as good as the first film in the saga that he himself directed.
