Although it has become known in recent minutes that the refinery explosion in Jeddah has been the cause of a terrorist attack by the Yemeni rebels, Formula 1 has chosen to continue with the established plan.
The start of the weekend in Jeddah has not been as expected by any of the members of the Formula 1 grid: shortly after the first free practice sessions began in Saudi Arabia, a cloud of black smoke it became well visible in the surroundings of the layout.
A few minutes later it was confirmed that the explosion at an Aramco refinery near the circuit had actually been a terrorist attack by the Houthi rebelsone more sample of the warlike conflict that has been present day after day since 2015 in that geographical area.
However, an emergency meeting between the main stakeholders has calmed things down. “The government has assured us that it is safe to fly here”, confessed Guenther Steiner, head of Haas in the circuits. “After free practice we will have another meeting. Personally, I feel absolutely safe. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here.”

Even though the explosions caused by these terrorist attacks have occurred (and it seems that they continue at this time of the afternoon) a few kilometers from the Jeddah circuit, the main bosses have chosen to go ahead with the second Grand Prix of the 2022 season.
Among the 20 pilots, some has expressed his discomfort due to the fact that this test is still standing, but everything points to the fact that the statement issued by the GP promoter in the last hours, in which they guarantee the safety of those present on the track at all times, is the one that rules.

The FIA has canceled all driver press conferences with the media, so any interaction between them will be made to wait until the ruling body of the premier category of motorsports issues an official sentence.
