With the purchase of more than 1,500 electric trucks that do not use fossil fuels and an investment of more than one billion euros, Amazon announced on Monday that it wants to achieve the decarbonization of its transport in Europe, for which it hopes to double its fleet of electric vehicles. .
Amazon already uses several thousand zero-emission vehicles, including 5 electric trucks in the UK and 20 in Germany. Within its future acquisitions and development of electric trucks, it will include more than 300 in France in the following years, as reported by Infobae.
Amazon’s idea is to increase its fleet of electric vans from the current 3,000 to more than 10,000 by 2025.
Another of Amazon’s proposals to reduce emissions is the development of micromobility centers, which are smaller warehouses compared to suburban warehouses, from which deliveries can be made on foot or by cargo bike. Currently it already has this type of centers in more than 20 cities in Europe.
Amazon is focusing these actions on its goal of “zero net carbon dioxide emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the goal proposed in the Paris Agreement.”
Scout, a leisurely plan at the moment
Amazon had started in 2019 the tests of a robot that would distribute its products moving through the streets and delivering to each person’s home, this as part of its actions to achieve its goal of zero emissions as well as speed up its delivery service.
This project is currently paused due to flaws in the implementation that Amazon found as well as the reduction of personnel working on the project, according to information from Infobae.
Scout, as Amazon had called the robot, is waiting for the less than 400 employees who worked on it to find a way to optimize it to provide better service.
