The premiere of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is almost around the corner. It will be next September 2 when amazon which promises to be the most expensive series of all time. For now the information about her is relatively scarce. Yes, we already have a trailer and we know what books the platform has the rights to, but it was still a mystery what exactly it was going to tell us.
That has changed thanks to a Vanity Fair article in which Patrick McKay and JD Payneshowrunners of the series, have revealed what they are the four great stories of Middle-earth they want to tell us in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’.
The forging of the rings
The story that will serve to understand, among other aspects, why Elrond (Robert Aramayo) believed in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy that humans are weak, since in the Amazon series he begins as an optimistic elf who aims to recover damaged alliances like the one they had with the dwarves, highlighting his relationship with Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur).
Another character who will play a fundamental role in this story is the blacksmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), whose participation was fundamental for the forging of the rings. In addition, this will make ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ go back thousands of years to know how it all began, showing us Lindon, the capital of the elves.
The Rise of Sauron
The second will focus on Sauron’s rise to power while he was still in physical form. It is unknown who will play this essential character in the history of Middle-earth, but it is known that Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Halbrand (charles vickers) will travel to many places to find him.
The rise and fall of the kingdom of Númenor
An island located between Middle-earth and the Undying Lands, Númenor is Tolkien’s version of Atlantis, which was led by the ancestors of Aragorn, mortals with a life expectancy greater than that of other humans. The Serie will pay particular attention to the fall from grace of this kingdom.
The last alliance between elves and men
A key aspect referring to Númenor will be the clashes between Tar-Míriel and Ar-Pharazôn about the succession in power of said kingdom. Hence comes Isildur (Maxim Baldy), a young sailor who ended up being the one who snatched the one ring from Sauron’s hand, only to succumb to his power. Compared by McKay to Michael Corleone, his temptation by his power and his complicated relationship with his father Elendil are two of the linchpins of the ultimate alliance between elves and humans.
But we will have to wait
Those four stories that I mentioned before will be vital for the Amazon series, but we will have to be patient until ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ focuses on them, since the first season will have another approach, more focused on the heroes of Middle-earth. This is how McKay explains it:
We didn’t want to do something villain-centric. We wanted to introduce these worlds and the people that inhabit them; the characters and great heroes, some that you already know and others that are new. The second season will delve a little deeper into the lore and stories that people have been waiting to hear.
