Nowadays, when we talk about immersive experiences, we tend to think in virtual reality, but what The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) is building in Saudi Arabia, redefines this concept … a luxury hotel carved into a mountain for your future guests to literally stay within the land.
The Desert Rock hotel complex It is located in one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the world, integrating itself into the mountainside and offering panoramic views of a unique landscape with the stars in the background, with the aim of combining luxury, sustainability and an immersive experience.
Inspired by the impressive mountains, volcanoes and valleys that surround it, Desert Rock will have 48 villas and 12 hotel suites. There will be a wide variety of lodging styles to suit different needs, from ground-level dwellings to crevasse suites within the mountain.
Guests will enter the complex through a hidden valley between the mountains, which minimizes noise and light pollution. The complex has state-of-the-art facilities, such as a luxury spa and gym, gastronomic spaces and a lagoon-shaped oasis. In addition, the experience is completed with the option of going on excursions with the locals, who will offer educational tours of the area.
TRSDC defends and protects the history of the area, which connects Asia, Africa and Europe. During centuries, Saudi Arabia has been a meeting point of civilizations and a place of passage for the caravans of the incense trade route that transported spices, myrrh, cotton, ebony and silk.
The Nabataeans – an ancient Arab people who inhabited northern Arabia and the southern Levant and who are perhaps best known for their monumental rock-cut tombs at Petra, Jordan – inhabited the northwestern region of Saudi Arabia about 2,000 years ago and they built their second largest city there, at Mada’in Salih, a few hours’ drive from Desert Rock. The Desert Rock Resort will start in 2023, being part of the first phase of construction of The Red Sea Project, but we are already looking forward to seeing how it will look once finished …
