To our surprise Apple has launched a beta of macOS Big Sur. It is also a Release Candidate version, something that does not usually arrive as a first beta. MacOS Big Sur version 11.6.1 focuses on security enhancements and can be downloaded directly from Appleās developer website.
Security is a priority, also of older operating systems
Apple is known for taking great care of the security of our devices. In each update we see that a multitude of small corrections have been applied aimed at making the operating systems we use every day more and more secure. These updates they also reach older operating systems, with what less current machines can also enjoy maximum security.
That said, the truth is that it is striking that Apple has decided to launch a Release Candidate of a minor version of Big Sur. In general, the launch that we would see would be directly that of the final version, since the changes must be minor. And precisely for this reason, it is possible to think that this update, which Apple has wanted to test with the developers, has more changes than is usual.
Recall that it was in macOS 11.6, released at the beginning of the month, when Apple closed two major security holes that could have been used to compromise some machines. Now, with version 11.6.1, Apple is redoubling its efforts and ensuring the safety of those who have not yet upgraded to macOS Monterey.
If we are developers and we are running macOS Big Sur, we will find the update within Software update on System preferences. If we are not developers for now we have to wait, surely Apple will release the final version of this RC in the coming days.
