Now the Supermassive Games games will be proper movies
The Quarry, the new horror game from Supermassive Games, like Until Dawn or The Dark Pictures Anthologies one of those cinematic games that imitate the style of cinema with very guided and not very complex proposals that in most cases are limited to respond quickly to complex situations, resulting in several possible outcomes that shape the story based on your decisions. A very simple gameplay suitable for most players, but the team wants it to be accessible even to those who have never played a video game, so it will have a “movie mode” where the game will do all the work for us.
As IGN shows in a recent trailer for The Quarry, it’s not all predefined from the start, “movie mode” lets you choose between “everyone dies”, “everyone lives” or sit in “the director’s chair”, where the behavior of each character can be customized so that the game simulates games where a player would make different decisions. Once selected to suit the viewer, all that remains is to hit Play and enjoy “the movie”.
Without a doubt, if a type of game can count on this type of “movie mode” it is that of the slasher genre that Supermassive Games cultivates so much, inherited precisely from the cinema. In recent years, other types of adventures have been controversial for its resemblance to the cinema and its poor gameplaylike the Quantic Drems: Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls or Detroit: Become Human games.
a cast of stars
As is tradition, The Quarry will feature a performance by famous actors who will play the game’s characters, including David Arquette (Scream) as Chris, Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Abigail, Brenda Song (Hotel Dulce Hotel) as Kaitlyn, Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu) as Ryan or Lin Shaye (Insidous) as Constance. We’ll see which of them dies first.
The Quarry will go on sale next June 10th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
