Rumors about a possible remake of The Last of Us they had started some time ago, but The Last of Us Part 1 wasn’t officially announced until last month at Summer Game Fest. In this announcement, updated graphics with higher fidelity than the original were shown, as well as the promise that the AI and gameplay have been completely revised for the remake.
The Last of Us Part 1 has received a considerable facelift in an effort to make the franchise more modern, at least compared to the obvious leap forward in fidelity and performance that The Last of Us 2 represents. Now, fans don’t have to wait long for it. The Last of Us Part 1 arrives, and a special announcement helps cement the excitement around its upcoming release date.
Thanks to a Twitter post from developer Naughty Dog, fans now know that The Last of Us Part 1 it is already Gold and represents a quality or condition with which Naughty Dog agrees to distribute it. This probably means that it has been polished enough to work well, but the developer will still have a chance to iron out bugs or any other issues until release, which could lead to a day one patch.
Reaching gold status nearly two months prior to release, however, is an impressive feat and speaks volumes about the dedication Naughty Dog has put into the remake.
Recent claims that The Last of Us Part 1 could be a money grab have been disputed by Robert Morrison, the remake’s cinematographic animator, who maintains that it is “the most meticulously constructed and fabricated project” they have ever worked on.
Additionally, Lead Environment Artist Anthony Vaccaro states that crunch was not necessary to complete the work on The Last of Us Part 1.
