Almost 18 euros per month is what Netflix’s premium plan will cost from now on in Europe, as the world’s most popular streaming service by volume of subscribers announced on Monday, October 11.
That’s right, amid complex and increasingly tough platform competition, Netflix decided a raise that is giving something to talk about in the Old Continent and that could expand to other markets, since the cost of productions increases and the bidding with Internet operators becomes more complicated.
From now on, the basic plan will cost in Europe 7.99 euros per month (this package has not undergone changes), the standard plan increases one euro (from 11.99 to 12.99 per month) and the premium plan increases two euros: from 15.99 to 17.99 (this is equivalent to about 432 Mexican pesos, at this Monday’s exchange rate).
No other changes have been announced, so it is understood that the conditions hold and the limits regarding the number of simultaneous screens for each plan, as well.
The rise in Europe is added to an increase that Netflix applied in other countries last week. In Argentina, for example, it announced an increase in all plans that will impact November bills.
The increase in the price of Netflix, according to the company, was due in that market to the fact that the platform understands that “people have more entertainment options”, so it seeks “to provide more original productions” and “to improve the service” with the idea of achieving better competitiveness and being a more attractive platform compared to the current broad proposal, publishes BAE Business.
By October 2020, the company had increased its products in the United States, its largest market: its standard and premium plans went from $ 12.99 to $ 13.99 and from $ 15 to $ 17.99 per month.
Although the new increase corresponds to Europe, other previous increases were later generalized to similar announcements, so it is not ruled out that at some point it will reach countries like Mexico, where the last adjustment occurred in May 2020.
At that time, the Netflix price of the basic plan went from 129 to 139 pesos, the standard from 169 to 196 pesos, and the premium, from 229 to 266 pesos.
Netflix has repeatedly said that it implements market-by-market price changes, and that adjustments in some countries do not influence or indicate changes in global prices.
