Don’t Miss: The Definitive Collection of Marvel Graphic Novels
True believers know the story that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko presented to us in Amazing Fantasy # 15, where after being bitten by a radioactive spider, the shy young Peter Parker receives powers similar to those of the insect, which he will use to defend justice, after learning in the worst way that great power comes great responsibility.
With the turn of the millennium, Marvel needed to reach out to new readers by offering the classic stories that built La Casa de las Ideas with fresh vision, as well as art that impacts fans.
That is why the Spider-Man story received a fresh update, according to the concerns of new readers, respecting the essence of the original story, which was joined by then-promising writer Brian Michael Bendis and experienced artist Mark Bagley. .
Bendis arrived at the House of Ideas and his first mission was to revitalize one of Marvel’s most beloved characters, Spider-Man, thus launching the Ultimate line.
The Ultimate era begins
For this assignment, Bendis was joined by one of the artists most admired by Spidey fans, Mark Bagley, whose cartoon aesthetics marked an era within the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man, just remembering sagas like Maximum Carnage, Shriek and Pursuit.
Bendis and Bagley delivered a seven-take story that followed the story of Peter Parker, the shy student who on a visit to Oscorp was bitten by an experimental spider, which was injected by a solution created by Norman Osborn himself.
The creative duo went beyond adapting the classic story of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Bendis and Bagley established a situation of the year 2000 for Peter Parker, model student who lives under the tutelage of his uncles.
For this story Bendis introduced us to Norman Osborn, scientist, businessman and person in charge of the formula that turns Peter into Spider-Man. They also introduce us to Harry Osborn, the son of the businessman who despite his great efforts to excel, will never get his father’s attention.
This time the youth cast is between 14 and 20 years old, which shows us a Peter who will soon learn the most important lesson of his entire life: With great power comes great responsibility.
Ultimate Spider-Man: Power and Responsibility was only the spearhead of a glorious era for Marvel where Bendis was tasked with revitalizing key Marvel characters and groups such as the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
Don’t hesitate any longer and get Ultimate Spider-Man: Power and Responsibility, the twenty-fifth volume of The Definitive Collection of Marvel Graphic Novels.
