The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, has gone down in history as one of the biggest releases of its generation, if not of all time. Considered a landmark video game that helped kick off the shift to 3D in the ’90s, it was instrumental, along with others like the original Half-Life, in helping the industry move forward.
Therefore, it was almost inevitable that the game would be unofficially ported to PC, and now players can enjoy better dynamic lighting and shadows. Well, a modder has taken the PC version of Ocarina of Time and has given it a facelift by adding the Ray Tracing.
A couple of screenshots and a video on Twitter show the improved lighting effects of this classic from Nintendo Almost a quarter of a century old. At the moment, the mod is still a work in progress and there doesn’t seem to be a release date yet. Also note that as it is still in development, it is likely that any images or footage displayed will receive additional improvements before the plugin is released.
In any case, Dario’s mod is looking very good so far, and many fans will no doubt be looking forward to the update. With a couple of unofficial ports of Ocarina of Time for PCs released not too long ago, there are now opportunities to play the beloved Legend of Zelda title, which was originally only available on the N64 and later on the GameCube.
There was also the 3DS version, which came out in 2011, and now a Switch port available through a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription. In general, it has been quite difficult to play OoT without a Nintendo console.
