A first dose of five episodes is what Netflix has given us with the fifth and final season of ‘La casa de papel’. The quintessential heist series it continues to give large doses of adrenaline, action and to burn cartridges at a considerable rate without considering, worth the redundancy, that they have been burned and stretching the gum more than necessary.
Because if there is something that this season 5 is showing, it is that with four seasons it would have been enough. But, I do not know if the fault of Álex Pina or Netflix, greed can in this dilated to the extreme robbery of the Bank of Spain.
And one of the problems of the series is precisely your identity card. His dose of adrenaline, increasing because tolerance is higher and higher, is precisely what weighs down these five episodes. A step on the accelerator without looking back, which, as Mikel commented in his initial review, causes an uneven result.
Without changing the play
But what really hurts this season is that Pina, Juan Salvador López and Javier Gómez Santander they never change the script scheme. The twists, the false conflicts, the cliffhangers and the moments when it seems that everything is finished for the professor and his band begin to lose grace or interest after the umpteenth scene traced.
This strangely soaks up the less action moments as well: to dialogue, flashbacks and revelations, who run the risk of feeling implausible or strangely inappropriate (the confession from Manila to Denver, for example).
That this does not mean that it is no longer effective and addictive. It is and one is lenient with these things because of how well one can enjoy it. As a good drug, it knows how to give us what is ours, but it is no longer enough to repeat the schemes of past seasons, but it needs a turnaround.
And that rollover could have come with a better development of the “villains”, to call them in some way: both Arturo and Tamayo are no more than caricatures; even Najwa Nimri’s Alicia Sierra lacks a moment of respite and character development.
In short, ‘The paper house’ faces a final phase in which you have to be careful and know how to give more care to your signs identity so that the public does not tire of the adrenaline-fueled tricks of Pina and company. This season 5 needs an extra effort so that instead of a meticulous robbery it does not end in botch.
