Warner Bros. and Discovery have merged, so a restructuring is coming for the company and its entertainment projects. As part of these changes, it was announced that the Batgirl movie had been cancelled, but it seems that the company is seeking to further distance itself from the Snyderverse, as they consider that Joss Whedon’s Justice League is the only one that matters.
Last year we saw the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League through HBO Max, which is the director’s cut of the film that originally hit theaters in 2017 in a version made by Joss Whedon, which was very poorly received by fans and the general public.

This week it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery had canceled the Batgirl movie, but it was also learned that the documentary filmmaker Leslie Iwek asked the company for clips of Zack Snyder’s Justice League for a movie about the history of DC movies, to which Warner Bros. responded that there is only one Justice League movie and it’s from 2017.
It is unknown if the cancellation of Batgirl is related to the studio wanting to distance itself from the so-called Snyderverse, since the film had the participation of JK Simmons in the role of Commissioner Gordon, as we had seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, the film was also going to see Michael Keaton’s Batman return, replacing Ben Affleck’s.
The plan is for Michael Keaton to return as Batman in The Flash movie, but it’s unknown if Warner Bros. Discovery has any plans for the film given the controversies actor Ezra Miller gets into. It was recently revealed that Ben Affleck will return as Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, replacing Michael Keaton in one scene.
