The new “Community” section would bring Facebook groups closer to the WhatsApp experience.
Last week we lived through a very chaotic day when, for about six hours, the Facebook servers stopped working. With them, not only the largest social network in the world fell, but also the rest of the apps that depend on its network, such as Instagram and WhatsApp. That day, it became more apparent than ever how united the company’s networks are already.
However, it seems that on its way to maintain the leadership of WhatsApp they are going to apply changes that will bring them even closer. Changes that, on the one hand, could transform the instant messaging app into a true social network. All this, thanks to a new functionality called “Community”, as shared by our friends from Andro4All as a result of information extracted by XDA-Developers.
In the past, we have already seen Facebook trying to introduce functionalities present in other of its apps, and the great example of this is stories. In this case, they might be trying to implement something similar to Facebook groups, where its creators could create conversations from specific posts. This is also present in apps like Telegram, in the form of channels.
If something like this can work in an app like WhatsApp, it remains to be seen. The company would be testing it with your beta community, although it could be one of those ideas that never finally see the light of day. For now, there is no other choice but to wait to see if it is part of that transformation in which they are immersed, one that could end up resulting in that total integration with Facebook that was discussed in the past. Something that, for many users, is not particularly attractive.
