The always accurate Bong Joon-ho projects are piling up. If in May of last 2021 I told you that, after having captivated half the world with his splendid ‘Parasites’, the South Korean was already working in unison on his jump to animation and on the script for his next film shot in English, now we must add a third feature film to the whole. And watch out, because he paints like a bombshell.
winning combination
As confirmed by Deadline, the Daegu filmmaker has signed on with Warner Bros. to direct an adaptation of the science fiction novel —still unpublished— ‘Mickey7’ by Edward Ashton starring none other than Robert Pattinson, who is in negotiations with the studio to close the deal. I don’t know about you, but I’m already salivating.
The thing improves when we know the plot details of ‘Mickey7’, described as a cross between ‘The Martian’ —which Ridley Scott adapted in 2015— and Blake Crouch’s ‘Dark Matter’ centered on Mickey7, a man on a near-suicidal expedition to colonize Niflheim, an ice planet. During a routine mission, Mickey7 disappears and is presumed dead, being replaced by his clone Mikey8; but version 7 remains alive thanks to the help of the natives of Niflheim.
Of course, Mickey7 must keep his identity a secret while the conflict between natives and settlers grows, led by Commander Marshall, who is increasingly afraid of his new neighbors. An easily recognizable premise, but that can give a lot of play in the hands of a filmmaker like Bong.
For the moment No details have been disclosed about the order in which the three projects will be addressed. that are on the table today. What we do know is that we will see Robert Pattinson wear the mantle of the bat in ‘The Batman’, which will be released in theaters on March 4.
