The study Denys & von Arend has recently completed the Interior design project for the Coatresa headquarters, healthy offices for which it has been inspired by the concept of ‘the third skin’. Coatresa, a family business founded in 1983, located in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda and led by the second generation, is specialized in providing solutions in the industrial sector, through non-stick and anti-corrosion coatingsspecialized in the food baking sector at the level of molds and coatings.
The firm’s management team sought a Passive House officesystem based on the optimization of resources through passive techniques that make the building efficient: quality thermal insulation of the envelope, installation of high performance windows and doors, absence of thermal bridges, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and air tightness.
To address the design concept, the team at study Denys & von Arend started from the meaning of non-stick and anti-corrosive coatings manufactured by Coatresa to form the concept of “The third skin”. Perhaps some of you do not know that according to the Hundertwasser’s 5 skins theorythere are 5 skins: the first is the epidermis, the second is clothing, the third is the home, the fourth is the social environment, and the fifth is the world environment.
The project started from a totally undressed and industrial spaceon which a refined industrial style has been generated.
A has been created office with movement through a metal mesh that works as a visual filter between zones, separating them, but without dividing them, thanks to its semi-transparency. A feeling of seeing without being seen is generated. In this luminous space, certain “raw” materials are left uncovered, covering them with a patina of color that gives them a new focus within the space.
It combines coatings and separators of different texturesmixing quilted finishes with other harder ones and adding richness and variety to the envelopes.
The design of different volumes within the space, working the different heights, generates boxes inside the nave and separators that generate new routes inside the office. By adding more or less skins, more private and other more permeable spaces are created to respond to the different needs within the office: meeting rooms, informal meeting space, ‘phone booths’, etc.
The plant of the new offices becomes a single space where a wide variety of activities take place. Being located in the center, the office articulates the entire floor plan and, thanks to its circular shape, creates a connection and meeting space within the space.
The sum of the different elements: skins, patterns, separators, light, variety of textures, makes make the office an elegant, timeless space and with a relaxed atmosphere that invites productivity, teamwork or individual work, offering a place where employees interact socially and professionally in a healthy environment.
