Windows 11 will be launched in a matter of days (on October 5) and among its many novelties, the renewal of the system applications stands out. Some of them, such as Microsoft Paint, have been quite a surprise to users, as they had not been any notable changes for many years. Now We can now test this new version of Paint on the Windows Insider Dev Channel.
A nice but unstable new Microsoft Paint
Microsoft announced the new design for Microsoft Paint on August 19, more than a month ago. The application has taken longer to arrive than expected and, due to the state in which it is, We do not think it will be ready to debut on October 5 next to Windows 11.
The first thing we notice when opening the application is a erratic animation, showing a solid black color for less than a second in place on the canvas. Many users have noticed the existence of memory leaks and of FPS drops when using it. Also, not all parts have been redesigned and we can still see the old color picker when we click on it. What’s more, the announced dark theme is not yet available.
These problems would not be important (being a first version) if it were not for the release of Windows 11 is imminent. Microsoft has worked piecemeal to renew the vast majority of its native applications and has done a great job with some such as the Microsoft Store, Settings and Clock. However, it seems that others like Paint and the new Media Player (not yet officially announced) have not suffered the same fate.
Microsoft promises that the application will be updated with a dark theme, a centered canvas, and dialogues with an updated layout. We hope that this is the case and that the new Paint ends up being completed as it deserves.
