Mercedes continues to work at full capacity on the development of its new coupe. The Mercedes CLE Coupé has been sighted, once again, in broad daylight. However, the prototype, photographed during a road test session, sports the AMG Line equipment line, which enhances its sportier side.
The development process of new Mercedes CLE Coupe keep going and move forward at a good pace. The initials CLE are called to play a leading role in the Mercedes range. And it is that this new model, which we remember will be available in a Cabrio and Coupé body variant, is called to deal in two different segments. It is a really ambitious goal but the German company is ready for it.
Mercedes has decided not to give continuity to the Class C and Class E coupe and convertible type. A total of four models that will leave the market through the back door and will be replaced by the new Mercedes CLE. These are turbulent times in the automotive industry in Europe, and these types of bodywork report fewer and fewer registrations. Even more so when the so-called “SUV fever” does not present symptoms of remitting in the short term. Approximately one in two new cars sold on the European market is an SUV.
Spy photos of the new Mercedes CLE Coupe
The German manufacturer is currently in southern Europe carrying out the very important summer tests. The new CLE Coupé is one of the models that Mercedes has brought to this part of Europe to complete a series of tests on roads open to traffic. Our spy photographers have spotted a prototype in broad daylight. A sighting that allows us, once again, to get closer to development.
The test unit has an exterior covered almost entirely in camouflage. However, and despite this matter, which is relevant, there are several elements that show that we are facing a CLE Coupé configured with the AMG Line equipment line. A finish that brings out its most dynamic and sporty side, although without reaching the level of a variant signed by Mercedes-AMG.
The wheel design reveals high-performance brakes with perforated discs on the front and rear axles. This equipment, which is optional, contrasts, for example, with the fact that it does not have visible exhaust outlets.
The engines of the new Mercedes CLE Coupé
Regarding the mechanical section, the range of engines of the new CLE Coupé will be made up of a selection of gasoline blocks with four and six cylinders. The plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV) will also make an appearance. And as expected, all engines will feature an automatic gearbox. There will be no versions with manual transmission. A variant with the seal of Mercedes-AMG is also expected.
The launch of the new CLE Coupé is scheduled for some time in the second half of 2023. It will land in European dealerships as a 2024 model.
