New leak in Apple’s iPad line, in this case, our sample shows an approximate vision of the company’s next iPad mini. These new images have been shared by the medium Pigtou, who has collaborated with the leaker xleaks7 (David Kowalski), in the recreation of this iPad mini.
In theory, they ensure that the design we see on these lines is based on the filtering of CAD files that show the design of the device. The same source already revealed the CADs of the new iPad Pro, with which they could recreate the design in a similar way in very reliable images.
This new iPad mini would debut a somewhat strange design that Apple has not yet addressed. As reported, the external dimensions and body of the iPad mini would be identical to the current model, measuring 203.2 mm high, 134.8 mm wide and 6.25 mm thick.
However, the screen would get much closer to the edges, especially above and below, going from 7.9 to 9.15 inches in this model. However, elements such as the camera or the Touch ID sensor would remain in the same position, so a hole in the screen would be needed to keep them working.
A strange decision that does not convince us
You have to respect the sources, but I honestly do not think this is a solution that Apple could choose, for several reasons.
First, Apple hasn’t used screen holes on any device yet, and I doubt they want to start with the iPad mini. And second, because that Touch ID piercing the screen no longer makes sense.
The iPad Air features a Touch ID sensor on the unlock button and has removed the home button. That is undoubtedly the way to go, and not pierce the screen to embed the old Touch ID sensor, especially having options in the competition that integrate it under the panel.
We had already heard rumors about a new iPad mini with tighter frames, but its design should look more like a small iPad Air 2020 than this one shared from Pigtou, but who knows.
