As brands have begun to land particularly hard in the e-commerce arena, the consumer has begun to be carefully sensitive to warranties. that online stores offer and in this sense the new movement made by the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) has gained relevance.
And it is that today the body that protects consumer rights has launched a call for brands to obtain the Profeco Digital Distinction, through which it seeks to promote and strengthen security, transparency and confidentiality in electronic commerce.
In this way, Profeco stressed that this call is open to those who are suppliers of goods, products or services.
This distinctive, which will give greater certainty to consumers, will be valid for one year and will have the quality of official recognition that is given to those suppliers that stand out for providing good service to the consumer.
For trademarks to obtain this distinctive, they must have the registration application corresponding, in addition to meeting the following requirements:
- Prove your legal personality.

Although it is true that this recognition proposed by Profeco is not mandatory at all, the truth is that for brands it could function as a true guarantee to reinforce the clarity, security and quality of their efforts in the field of e-commerce, a segment that It has registered an important growth in the last months that does not speak more than to become exponential during the following months.
The figures are clear. Data provided by Statista indicate, for example, that during the week that began on April 6 of last year, just one month after the pandemic began to spread in Latin America, the income registered by e-commerce platforms grew 230 percent compared to the week between March 9 and 15 of the same year.
Specifically, growth by country is much more overwhelming: in Peru revenues grew 900 percent, in Mexico the figure reached 500 percent, while in Colombia and Brazil the increase was 130 percent.
In the case of the Mexican market, we have to say about the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO) 55 percent of people buy products and services online to avoid leaving home. The main reason with 48 percent of mentions is to avoid crowds in physical stores.
The interest could be maintained not only in terms of the number of people who join e-commerce, but also in terms of the time allocated to buy through these channels.
This is how the conclusions of the study have shown Oracle Retail Consumer Research 2020 which indicates that during the pandemic, Mexicans spent three to five hours a week on the internet to make purchases through the available e-commerce channels.
