Nintendo may not be on board with the art style of this fan remake.
Without a doubt, Pokémon Yellow is one of the most popular installments among veterans of the Pokémon series. Not only because it is one of the first installments of the series or because you can select a companion pokemon that follows you during the game, but because it plays an important role in the nostalgia of many players. Many fans of Pokémon Yellow wonder when we will see a remake that lives up to its legacy.
We have recently seen how the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (Shining Diamond and Shining Pearl) adapted these classic games to Nintendo Switch with a controversial “chibi” art style which did not convince everyone. A well-known artist has also tried to recreate Pokémon Yellow in a similar style, but closer to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which made Nintendo fans fall in love.
Pokémon Yellow as you never imagined
The truth is that when adapt classic Game Boy adventures like Link’s Awakening or this Yellow Pokémon, the 3D art style that Nintendo used in the remake of the Zelda installment makes a lot of sense. He also had an enormous taste for detail, color, etc. The project that we bring today is similar, but at the same time very different.
First of all, it is a project of youtuber Pokebro, who is trying to remake Pokémon Yellow in 3D. As we can see, the result at first glance is similar to the Link’s Awakening approach but with a more realistic style, but less stylized and saturated than Nintendo’s. Apart from the models being made in voxel (with 3D pixels) in the style of The Touryst or Echo Generation. At the moment, the youtuber’s work is focused on recreating Pueblo Paleta, Ciudad Verde and Route 2, take a look.
The thing does not end there, since apart from the visual change, Pokebro also adds some gameplay enhancements of modern Pokémon installments, like Pokémon Scarlet and Purple’s ‘Let’s Go’ system where Pikachu will drop you off for wild battling battles, and a Pokémon Legends: Arceus-style Poké Ball launch graphic.
The truth is that it is quite unlikely that Pokémon will launch a remake with this visual style, but fans of the first generation of Pokémon continue to dream of a remake that adapts the original games of the series in a different way than the one the company did with Pokemon Let’s Go Eeve and Let’s Go Pikachu. Ppr soon, what is planned is the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple for next November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
