Lance Armstrong is probably the most controversial professional cyclist in the history of the sport. We are only a few days away from the start of the Tour de France, one of the most important events in the world.
It was precisely Lance, a great American cyclist, who surprised locals and strangers with a series of 7 wins in this event, which were later withdrawn from him, in addition to being suspended for life from participation in any official competition, due to the use of prohibited substances to improve your performance on the bicycle.
Lance maintains in his defense that during his career he was never sanctioned. Some relevant facts in this controversial story: 1. Lance cheated, took advantage of it and was punished. 2. Lance did suffer from cancer and miraculously recovered. 3. His experience and performance as a cyclist was extraordinary and marked an era.
A few days ago it was revealed that the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz ends his contract with the Ineos Grenadiers team, and that although there is an intention to renew it, he would have made the decision to leave and sign with the EF Education-Easy Post team, of American origin.
Several reactions were generated with it, all justified by the extraordinary quality of Richard, who is positioned as one of the most important cyclists in Latin America and worldwide, having the Olympic gold medal on his chest as one of his discoveries; however, it was one of them, Lance’s -because of his leadership and experience- that has drawn the most attention: “Massive mistake by Richard Carapaz. He must run, not walk, the other way around.”
The change that Richard is forecast to make would allow him to be the team leader, while at Ineos, he must share the lead with other top cyclists. We will see the outcome of this story. It seems that the message of the 7 times yellow jersey is opposed to that very Mexican phrase that says: it is better to be the head of a lion, than the tail of a mouse; Lance will know something and when he issues an opinion, I think it should be heard.
