The possibilities of choosing one PS5 are limited. Either we get a drive with a disk reader or we opt for the digital version. Of course, in both cases we received a white console with a practically traced design. For this reason, you have to pull on fantasies like a golden PS5 or those that are inspired by franchises like The Last of Us.
This situation is due to the fact that Sony does not provide customizable cases, which is why many people have pulled their imagination. There are even companies that are dedicated to it, although they finally have to rectify their position by the Possible threat of legal action from Sony.
This is the case with Dbrand, a company that announced earlier this year that it would begin production of black cases for the PS5 and challenged Sony with a “go ahead, sue us.” It has taken a few months, but finally the Japanese company has issued a cease and desist letter to Dbrand, as The Verge reveals.
The content of the letter has been shared by the company itself on Reddit and that is where Sony accuses Canadian firm of counterfeiting, trademark infringement and unfair competition. A “quick and permanent cessation” of any kind of promotion, marketing and sale of these cases has been requested for PS5.
Right now, if we visit the Dbrand case purchase section, we find a compilation of news related to this Sony warning, without the possibility of buying. Sony continues detailing that it could claim precautionary and permanent measures, destruction of the infringing material, recovery of profits generated by Dbrand and additional financial compensation.
However, Sony has preferred to offer an opportunity to Dbrand to desist in his objectives without having to be involved both parties in a lawsuit.
“Despite Sony’s serious concerns about Dbrand’s conduct, and despite Sony’s adoption of the motto ‘go ahead, sue us’ (…) our client wishes to offer Dbrand the courtesy of resolving this matter without initiating legal action formal.”
Despite having withdrawn its products from sale, Dbrand defends “the consumer’s right to customize and modify their hardware with aftermarket components. “Finally, the company has closed its intervention on Reddit clarifying that they will stop production for now, but not before telling Sony to” go to hell. “
