Mahindra will enter the mass electric vehicle market with an interesting SUV. The new Mahindra eXUV300 will hit the market in 2023 with a clear goal, to become one of the best-selling electric SUVs in the Indian territory. A car that will have an affordable asking price.
Mahindra it is aware of the great bet that Tata Motors, its main rival, is making for electrification. That is why the well-known brand is going to launch an ambitious roadmap that will allow it to regain the prominence that it has lost in the field of sustainable mobility. Mahindra’s initial plans called for the introduction of an electric SUV this year. However, this is not going to happen.
The Indian manufacturer ensures that current sales of electric cars are the main obstacle when tackling a project as ambitious as the electrification at the highest level of the Mahindra XUV300, one of the central pillars that, for a long time, has supported a large part of the Mahindra range. However, little by little the electric car is gaining prominence in India and its sales figures improve.
The electric variant of the Mahindra XUV300 will be a reality
The new plans established by Mahindra signal introduction of eXUV300, the 100% electric alternative to the XUV300, in 2023. In recent years, the Indian brand has been analyzing the different business possibilities and now everything indicates that, in two years, the optimal conditions will be given to bet without complexes on this technology and, above all, for the development of a product line.
In the past Mahindra has already made its first steps in the world of electric mobility. About a decade ago the Mahindra e20, a small electric city car, was marketed. The fact of being “the first” was enough for a short time since the lack of updates and / or improvements was a drag on the continuity of this model.
Once the e20 stopped being marketed, all the ground gained by Mahindra served nothing more than to pave the way that years later brands such as Tata, Hyundai or Morris Garage began to travel. Speaking to a specialized media, Rajesh Jejurikar, a senior official at the Mahindra Group, stressed that all is not lost: “We do not see that the electric vehicle space is heating up as it is not reflected in numbers. We believe that EVs in personal space will take two to three years to recover. ‘
Mahindra eXUV300, the first in a long list of new electric cars
Jejurikar spoke of the expected XUV300 electric“The XUV300 will be the first SUV to undergo the EV transformation with a launch scheduled for 2023. We will launch a large number of models after that and we are also looking to explore the potential of new designs with electric vehicles.”
The arrival of the Mahindra eXUV100, the perfect rival to the Dacia Spring, was also affected by all these changes made to the launch schedule. Mahindra emphasized at the time that it will be a vehicle oriented to the fleet of companies. It will have a maximum range of approximately 150 kilometers.
The number of manufacturers that is betting on electric mobility in India is growing. However, at the moment only a handful of electric vehicles account for the bulk of registrations. The MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV are two of them.
