As time goes by, many companies and workers have returned to ‘normal’, others are still in the home office, and some have a hybrid system. However, there are good reasons to return to a workplace. Now the argument of david risher, Lyft CEO, it is that employees should return to face-to-face work motivated by the snacks offered in the office.
Flexible work?
In March, the platform that competes with uber in the United States, it reversed its work policy, despite the fact that only one year it assured that it would be “totally flexible”. That policy allowed many of its employees to live and work almost anywhere. And now they don’t have that option.
According to what was published by The Wall Street Journal, a Lyft employee asked why they had to go back to the offices. The Lyft CEO’s response left everyone speechless:
“For the snacks in the office”Risher reportedly replied.
The same workers told the outlet that, in the end, they were forced to qualify the meeting, that turned out to be “bad” for the discontent it generated.
Lyft CEO doesn’t have an easy scenario
Notably david risher took over as head of the company after a lousy streak which included market share drop, stock price drop and one demotivated workforcepointed out the same medium.
Against this background, since his arrival last March, Lyft CEO has cut about a thousand jobs. In addition to ordering employees to return to the office “for the snacks,” he also introduced new features for passengers and drivers.
By his second week as head of the company, Risher had already laid off 26% of his staff. He also announced drastic changes to the remote work policy and scrapped 2023 wage increases.
The money the company saved from payroll cuts went to lower user fees. With this measure, the travel platform seeks to be able to compete against Uber.
As quoted from business insidersRisher said that “Lyft brings people together to work, learn and play together.” However, his statements would suggest that the best thing he can offer, beyond the work environment, the salary or some flexibility, are the snacks.
So far, it has not yet been specified what snacks are offered at Lyft offices to make them so tempting.
