Comparisons between Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings are going to be inevitable, but HBO Max isn’t worried.
Epic fantasy adaptations are at their best, as we can see series like The Witcher (Netflix), the wheel of time (Amazon), letter to the king (Netflix), The legend of Vox Machina (Amazon) and will soon release the house of the dragon a spin-off of Game of Thrones on HBO Max and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from Amazon Prime Video. Not forgetting the movie Dungeons and Dragons which will arrive in 2023.
By now, we know that the series of The Lord of the rings will be released on September 2, 2022, while they have not specified the arrival date of Dragon’s house to hbo max, so they could even be available in a very short period of time, this could cause fans to make a lot of comparisons between the two shows. But it is something that does not concern the content manager of hbo max, CaseyBloyssince he said:
“A good operating principle is not to worry too much about what other people have on the air and keep your eyes on your own work. I feel great about House of the Dragon and we’ll release it when we release it.”
He also assured that: “There’s a good chance House of the Dragon will get a Season 2.”
Targaryen vs Suaron, what do you prefer?
The Serie The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will deal with the second age of Middle-earth, therefore, we will see events prior to the movies of Peter Jackson. In addition, they have assured that they will add many exclusive stories and characters to the series that do not appear in the writings of Tolkienwhich can cause the most unconditional fans to make a lot of noise on social networks.
While the house of the dragon will be set about 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and they will tell us how the Targaryens to Westeros and conquered everything. In addition, it has a more adult tone in terms of violence and sex, so in the great war between these two series, it is clear that the viewers will win.
