For months it has been rumored that, apart from the multiplayer aspect of The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog would be in charge of making a remake of the original 2013 game. At the moment this development has not been confirmed, but new leaks point to “a couple” of The Last of Us projects that could arrive later this year.
According to well-known insider Tom Henderson, “There are a couple of The Last of Us projects that are nearing completion and could be released in late 2022 or early 2023.” Henderson does not specify what these two projects could be, whether those that have been rumored for months, or new proposals.
“I’d expect to hear about these projects soon if they were to release this holiday period,” Henderson says of other developers who may be thinking of releasing their games around that time. Clear nod to this month of February where games of the stature of Dying Light 2, Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring have come out.
According to my own sources, there are a couple of TLOU projects that are near completion and could release by the end of 2022/Early 2023.

At the moment there is nothing confirmed about it, although Neil Druckmann himself, creator of the series, could have confirmed the remake of The Last of Us recently. Bearing in mind that everything points to The Last of Us HBO series will not premiere this year, it would not be unreasonable to think that the remake of the original game can also be relegated to 2023 to accompany the series. We will see then if the multiplayer section of The Last of Us 2 arrives at the end of the year as the insider suggests.
