Today we are going to Barcelona to see the reform of this flat in Barcelona’s Ensanche signed by the interior designer Pia Capdevila. The goal of the reform of this 160 m2 apartment Its main objective was to achieve greater amplitude in the daytime area. And in addition, the owners of the house also wanted to give a great prominence to the moldings and generate spaces framed with them.
In addition, as lovers of whiskey culture, they also wanted a space in the day area for the production and enjoyment of whiskey. And they also had the need to decorately house a large collection of reading books. The house is divided almost evenly into a day area and a night area, from the hall to the main entrance.
Three in one: living room-kitchen
To expand the living area of the house, Pia Capdevila decided to integrate the old gallery into the living room. “We found a beautiful arch in the living room that gave access to a gallery with a window. We decided to duplicate that arch and create a double entry of light into the living room ”, says the interior designer.
In this way, a structural felling was made and the existing arch was replicated to obtain two symmetrical outputs. Thus, it was possible to focus the room that houses the living room and dining room to natural light and take advantage of the gallery space to create a reading and relaxation corner with plants, since the house does not have an outdoor area.
As a result of these two arches, Pia Capdevila designed a piece of furniture that goes around the perimeter of the arches, helping to give meaning to the opening of environments. On the one hand, this piece of furniture functions as a
TV -the two side pieces were designed with a decorative purpose-, while the rear part becomes a bar cabinet with all the necessary accessories to house a space dedicated to the world of whiskey, (from special storage for glasses to drawers for cocktail accessories).
Regarding the furniture in the living room and dining room, they were chosen on neutral bases and soft lines, except for the dining room table (by Ixia, with a natural log top), and the coffee table, which is a old piece recovered. Miki Beumala’s sofa has very subtle straight lines, and the chaise longue that accompanies the reading corner was chosen with a more cozzy upholstery. To dress the sofa, the cushions of the are Texture and Gancedo.
The moldings, protagonists of the project
The moldings are one of the main protagonists in this house, so this interior designer designed the bar cabinet of the gallery based on the lines chosen for the moldings of the rest of the house to visually unify the space.
The molding of the whole house has a linear molding design with a straight edge, fleeing from the classic style to, from the moldings, generate pieces that will decorate the walls. In this way, the moldings in the dining room become important decorative pieces on the walls, such as the large mirrors that expand the light. In the case of the living room, these help to frame the picture above the sofa and the shelves.

Originally, the area that today occupies the work area open to the dining room was a room closed by a load-bearing wall. To unite both spaces, Pia Capdevila carried out a structural intervention in which the technicians calculated a shoring to carry it out and, in this way, an open space with natural light was gained.
The furniture that separates the dining room from the office was designed with a dual purpose. While on the side that opens to the dining room is a buffet where crockery and glassware can be stored, on the side of the office it is a storage unit for an office that ends up becoming a desk with drawers.
On the desk some Work shelves exactly the same as those in the living room to store books. The black color is repeated in various accessories in the house to achieve the masculine point that was sought.
Private areas: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a dressing room
In the night area, all the spaces were redistributed to optimize the space for to win a large dressing room and each bedroom to have its own bathroom. The main bathroom was designed with furniture and accessories of masculine lines and style, with more raised gray colors with a green touch, which were combined with light bases.
Wood continues to be the protagonist in this space, but in this case, in a slightly more reddish tone that does not match the floor but with several of the pieces that were chosen as the protagonists of the room, such as the dressers and the bedside tables.

The textiles were chosen in neutral linens, natural and warm colors. In the suite, several points with shelves were also designed.

was aesthetic and everything looked orderly.
In the two bathrooms of the house a piece of furniture with the same design was installed, and a tailored washbasin for each of them, although each of them was given a different personality depending on the room to which it belonged.
In the case of the children’s bathroom, a gray-blue color for furniture combined with wall and floor tiles in a false hydraulic system in the same tone.
Instead, the bathroom in the main room was designed inspired by a spa environment, in natural, neutral and gray tones, and with Porcelanosa wall tiles. The furniture has a cementitious gray, and the floor is made of ceramic wood.
