We’ve heard rumors for a long time about the iPhone 12’s supposed ability to wirelessly charge other devices. This means that the iPhone 12 could act as a wireless charging pad for other accessories, such as AirPods. However, when Apple introduced this new iPhone model, it didn’t say a word about this supposed wireless charging capability. Everything he told us about MagSafe was to be able to dock other accessories (covers etc) comfortably, or his own wireless charging pad.
Now, it turns out that functionality could actually be implemented in the iPhone 12, but Apple hasn’t activated it yet. This has been learned from the records of the FCC ( Federal Communications Commission). This is how Mark Gurman tells us in this tweet;
If this FCC filing is any indication, the iPhone 12 may have a hidden reverse charging feature. Perhaps MagSafe on the new AirPods? https://t.co/QhFQtOgoRB https://t.co/OAKzzb5U3B pic.twitter.com/pqAVcjLCyN

If this is so, there is a possibility that a future version of the AirPods could wirelessly charge its charging box simply by putting it on top of a sufficiently charged iPhone.
