Marvel series and movies always hide references to a larger universe and moon knight is not an exception (eye spoilers)
The Serie moon knight has confirmed in its first two chapters the affirmation of its executive producer, Grant Curtis, that the series “has no attachment” to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Featuring an all-new superhero and supporting cast unheard of in the franchise. And while the familiar faces have yet to appear, moon knight he has planted subtle references to the world around him.
The images of the trailer of the series showed a double-decker bus with an advertisement for the “Global Repatriation Council”. The same organization that managed the displaced lapse refugees in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While this reference to the GRC is the only prominent allusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are many implied ties to upcoming projects such as The Fantastic Four and Thor: Love and Thunder scattered throughout the first two episodes.
References to Asgard and Wakanda
Even a week later, new easter egs from the first Moon Knight episode are still being discovered. A fan has discovered references to Asgard and Wakanda in the same scene.
As Steve Grant examines an Egyptian mythology text, two books titled: “Old Is New Again: Asgard” and “Wakanda Story”which reference the homelands of Thor and Black Panther.
Grant reading books “history” Asgardian and Wakandan exemplifies everything that Marvel Studios has put in place since 2008. The MCU is the world outside your window in the sense that it reuses real cities and western iconography, but it is not a mirror image of real life. That said, acclimating the lore behind Black Panther and Thor into their history books is an accurate reflection of how the real world would respond to such fantastical reveals.
