The Halder brothers were very close to closing the necessary supports to compete in the WTCR in 2021. In fact, Mike and Michelle announced the keys to their project in partnership, but at the last moment everything fell apart. In this situation, Halder Motorsport had to redirect its efforts towards the TCR Spain, a category with a much lower cost per season and which was the perfect setting for the project to take even more flight. In fact, Mike Halder took the TCR Spain title with a total of eight winswhile Michelle was third.
The successes achieved during 2021 in the TCR Spainwith the drivers’ title for Mike, the women’s title for Michelle and the team crown has been more than enough claim for Halder Motorsport to return to international competition in 2022. In fact, the two Halder brothers will compete this year in the TCR Europe in a project that will even have a third car. Mike, Michelle and the third driver of the team, still to be defined, will be at the controls of three Honda Civic Type R TCR. The structure does not set goals, but wants to leave its mark on the contest.
This seems to be a fundamental point if the Halder brothers want to maintain their long-standing aspiration of having a competitive WTCR programme. In fact, Mike and Michelle’s ultimate goal is to compete in the World Touring Car Cup and establish themselves in the event in the short to medium term. In this aspect, Michelle Halder has reaffirmed her hope of competing in the WTCR in the future as he prepares to compete at TCR Europe in 2022.
Michelle is 22 years old, while her brother Mike, current TCR Spain champion in 2021, is 26. Ages that still allow some room for maneuver when it comes to shaping a solid project in the TCR Europe, always with a view to the WTCR. own michelle halder This is how he considers it: «We will compete again this year in the TCR Europe. Our goal is to do well, to progress individually and as a team. It is not a secret that our final plan is to compete in the WTCR in the future and we will work for it.».
At the moment everything is intentions, but the truth is that Michelle and Mike do not rule out the idea of doing at least one ‘wild card’ in the WTCR this season, now that the WTCR Trophy has relaxed its rule and gives greater shelter to drivers who compete individually in a race. The development of the season will mark the options of the Halder brothers to achieve their purpose in one of the last rounds of the calendar on European soil.
