Another of the phrases to be avoided by health professionals are those referring to the relationship between patients and their families, which can lead to uncomfortable misunderstandings. Proof of this is Ohihane’s tweet, in which someone from the hospital confuses the husband of a patient with her father. To avoid this type of confusion, De Bata Blanca advises to always refer to yourself as “companion or family member. The rest is to enter a lottery”.
– “It is great that your son accompanies you”
– “He’s my husband”.

What other superstitions are there in the medical guards?
A number of superstitious elements lurk in the medical guards and among them the idea that on full moon nights there would be more patients in the emergency room, more rudeness and that people will behave more violently on those nights.
But the literature was searched to see if these assumptions could be answered.
Regarding visits to the emergency room, it was found an old studiobut well done, by Thomson and colleagues, who analyzed four years of lunar cycles.[1] However, it did not find an increase in the rate of admission of patients to the emergency room on nights with a full moon.
However, on nights with a full moon, there are much more and much more serious traffic accidents. This is what Onozuka et al reported in 2018, in a study on the phases of the moon and traffic accidents.
The researchers found a significant trend of these transport accidents during the night period. Is it because we can see better and we tend to look away from the road? I could not say, but this trend must be taken into account.
Likewise, Calver et al., in a study published in 2009 and called The dark side of the moonfound much more violent behavior and incivility in their Emergency Department on full moon nights, with a doubling of these incivilities compared to usual.
Many more deliveries on full moon nights?
Another legend among ER doctors is that there will be many more births on nights with a full moon. However, no article was found in the literature to confirm this.
