a few days ago Netflix premiered the second season of ‘The Bridgertons’. As expected, he is sweeping and his popularity does not show the slightest sign of fatigue. Surely that is something that they already had on the streaming platform, since they announced their renewal for two additional batches of episodes long ago. The first big challenge will come in the third and not in terms of the story or the cast.
leadership change
The change I am referring to is the output of Chris VanDusen of the series. Perhaps his name does not mean anything to some viewers, but he was the creator of the series from the literary saga of Julia Quinn and also the showrunner for its first two seasons. The problem was that his contract with Netflix came to an end and he decided to leave. He himself has recently explained what motivated him to turn the page:
‘The Bridgertons’ will always have a special place in my heart. I think I did what I wanted to do, and the fact that it became the most important series on Netflix spoken in English is something that I am incredibly proud of and always will be. But at the end of the day, it was time to move on and hopefully create that magic again in the near future.
Of course, we have known for a long time who will replace Van Dusen at the head of ‘The Bridgertons’, since none of those responsible for the series wanted that this could cause some kind of delay. the chosen one was Jess Brownell, a veteran of both Shondaland in general and this series in particular, as she wrote scripts for several episodes of ‘Who is Anna?’ and ‘Scandal’, in addition to collaborating on the first season of ‘Los Bridgertons’ as story editor and as producer of two episodes of the second.
own Shonda Rhimes He commented at the time the change was announced that he had been looking for a project to entrust to Brownell for some time and that he did not hesitate when he learned of Van Dusen’s departure. Therefore, it cannot be said that ‘The Bridgertons’ is in the wrong hands, but all this is not a guarantee that the series will maintain its level.
The second season has shown us that the series can recover from an absence as important as that of Rege-Jean Page -which in the second season was explained like this- and to the change of protagonists, but the third has this other actor to take into account. At the end of the day, Brownell will want to bring something homegrown and not just keep doing the same thing, because the approach will have to be different to begin with. A priori, the leading role should fall on Benedict (Luke Thompson)but from Netflix nothing has been confirmed about it yet.
