19 years ago, a new horror franchise emerged from the mind of James Wan. With Saw (The game of fear), fans of tension and gore found great entertainment, and its success led to a franchise that, to be honest, went downhill. Two years after the premiere of the last film, Saw 10 is about to hit theaters and now we have a first look and a new release date. What is it about Saw X?
Set between the events of Saw I and IISick and desperate, John Kramer travels to Mexico to undergo a risky and experimental medical procedure in the hope of a miracle cure for cancer. However, he soon discovers that the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous killer is back at work for him, turning the tables on con artists in a visceral way. His revenge will come through devious, deranged and cunning traps.
Cast
For this new tape, which also works as a prequel to practically all the other installments, Tobin Bell is back as the twisted assassin that started it all Jigsaw, in the company of Shawnee Smith like Amanda Young. Together with them we will see Synnøve Macody Lund (ragnarok) Steven Brand (The Sandman) and Michael Beach (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story).
Taking advantage of the Mexican setting, a series of national interpreters will participate in the tape. Among them are Renata Vaca (Tell me about you), Paulette Hernandez (wolves cradle), Octavio Hinojosa (Play with me) and Joshua Okamoto (Z-control).
The direction is in charge of Kevin Greutert, also responsible for the sixth installment of the franchise. The screenplay is by Josh Stolberg, who also wrote the last two films, and Peter Goldfinger (3D piranha).
What will this new film bring?
After several disappointing installments for fans, the filmmakers promise that Saw 10 It will return to the essence of the first tapes. It is very helpful that it is a kind of “1.5 tape” in the chronology, since the tension and elements that captivated the spectators will be resumed. “We’ve been listening to what fans have been asking for, and we’re hard at work planning a movie that Saw fans and horror fans alike will love. And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of saw SAWwhich remains a fan favorite throughout the series.”
Within the framework of the Midsummer Scream 2023 convention, the producers added some interesting points: 1) Saw X it will be the longest movie in the franchise; 2) John is absolutely the protagonist, focusing much more on the human side of him; 3) the public does not need to have seen any previous film to understand it; and 4) will answer any unanswered questions from previous tapes.
