CUPRA has fulfilled one of its great dreams, that of becoming one more brand of the Volkswagen group and with its own models. A strategy that will mean saying goodbye to some of the sportier versions of SEAT. An example? There will be no battle between the CUPRA Terramar and CUPRA Ateca.
A few weeks ago, CUPRA presented its future strategy for the coming years, already converted into one more brand of the Volkswagen group, bringing forward the two new production models that will arrive in the range before the middle of the decade. Are the CUPRA Tavascanwhich we already knew but in a more conceptual way, and the unpublished Earthsea.
The latter is a great novelty for a great reason. dates from Autumn 2018, when we learned that SEAT had registered this name opening the door to an SUV coupé, with a sportier design than the Ateca, on which it was based and would share a large majority of parts. That intention was completely forgotten, until now that the sports brand has recovered it. But the most interesting thing about this future production model is the role it plays in the offer of the Spanish sports brand and in the matrixhaving the CUPRA Ateca In the spotlight.
The future Terramar marks the farewell of the CUPRA Ateca and Tarraco
The truth is that the sports brand has already built its own range of models, so between the Formentor and this new Terramar perfectly cover the spectrum of the range of compact and if it is not exceeded by the Terramar whose measurements we do not know. This has a direct consequence and one that clearly directly affects the sportier version of the compact SUV of the Spanish brand.
The Terramar, which will arrive on the market in 2024, will directly occupy the gap left by the CUPRA Atecaaccording to internal sources consulted, a decision that also will erase the long-awaited CUPRA Tarraco with a stroke of the pen. So much is being expected that, according to the information and the internal movements of CUPRA regarding the launch of its future models, there are more and more less chance of an alternative to the Kodiaq RS becoming a reality. Extremes that, of course, have not been confirmed by the brand.
The Terramar will offer a very showy design, with a silhouette with a very familiar style, although with proportions somewhat more generous, so it will offer more interior space and more cargo volume, the perfect alternative to the Tarraco and Ateca. And, to top it off, with a system PHEVa plug-in hybrid that will not only offer significant performance, but also great efficiency with 100 kilometers of 100% electric autonomy.
