In recent days, DC has grabbed more than one headline. And not exactly for the best reasons. Although for a long time Flash was sold as a masterpiece of superhero cinema, the truth is that the public did not agree with the adjectives used. Between a not-so-well-received comedy, low-quality visual effects, a confusing ending, and controversial cameos, Flash It has become the new failure of DC. Now that the tape is already in theaters, its director has spoken about what could have been of this multiversal tape.
Recently, Variety published a conversation that Andy Muschietti, director, and Barbara Muschietti, producer, had with those attending one of the many preview screenings of The Flash. There the controversial third act of the tape was discussed, in which the protagonist, in an attempt to reverse the deaths of Supergirl and Batman, travels to the past again and again, causing chaos in different universes.
Said clash of worlds causes the appearance of some of DC’s most iconic heroes, such as the Christopher Reeves Supermanthe Helen Slater’s Supergirl, Adam West’s Batman, and the never-before-seen version of Superman played by Nicolas Cage, among others. However, many characters were nowhere near appearing on the tape.
“The universes start to collapse, and we had a lot more characters. We knew we had to let them go because it just wasn’t the time”, mentioned Barbara Muschietti.
But who were these characters?
“That ‘hall of fame’ of great characters and actors… there are so many that the list was endless. We had to choose, we had to choose. Lynda Carter was one of them. (Marlon) Brando and Burgess Meredith, Cesar Romero. We had to keep Adam West. We grew up in Argentina, where broadcasting was very important. We only had four channels, and they were showing Batman, they were rebroadcasting Batman like it was a new series. That was our Batman,” Andy added.
Although the appearance of the characters that did make it to the final cut was well received by DC fans, the truth is that not everything has been acclaim. Recreating such iconic characters through CGI was not to the liking of many, specifically because of the poor quality presented at the end. Can you imagine that the same thing would have happened with the actors and characters that did not make it to the currently projected version?
If you want to relive the cameos of your favorite heroes, Flash continues in all theaters in Mexico.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
