“The Flash” will arrive in theaters in a few weeks and will introduce the multiverse in DC movies. Although this is something that Marvel has been exploring for some productions, this element has much more serious repercussions in the feature film starring Ezra Miller.
Since the plot and trailer for the new superhero film were announced, we discovered that time lines will be used as the common thread. Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, will use his powers to break the barriers of space and time. In this way he will be able to save his mother from dying.
For this reason, an attempt has been made to compare the ways in which comic book companies are adapting this resource in films.
Although the Flashpoint story was known from the strips, DC’s goal is to reboot its universe, after the box office flops and controversies that have swirled around many of its stars.
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE DC AND MARVEL MULTIVERSE
Unlike what has happened in the Marvel multiverse thus far, the repercussions of traveling through different realities in DC can be even more dangerous, because it can wipe out realities.
The first thing we got to see of the multiverse in the MCU was in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” when they brought versions of Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield into the story. This turned out to be more than anything nostalgic, since each reality returned to its course (well, and now nobody remembers Peter Parker).
This was later explored much more in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, where we got to see bits of other universes and explore another reality in a bit more depth (like the Illuminati).
What Marvel has done has allowed the universe to be expanded, introducing new characters and stories to the MCU. In contrast, DC’s exploration of the multiverse is a reset button, where everything that came before is going to be erased.
We still do not know exactly how it will be done, since “The Flash” will still hit theaters in April, but from the statements of the studio executives, we know that they plan to make the films of their figures again and with new actors.
The consequences of Barry Allen / The Flash’s timeline travel are likely to be irremediable within the story.
