The new Volvo EX90 will become a true technological flagship. This expected 100% electric SUV will be the first Volvo to be prepared for bidirectional charging, which opens up a whole range of possibilities when it comes to benefiting from the energy stored in the battery.
The entrance on stage new EX90 will mark a turning point in the electric offensive that has launched Volvo. This long-awaited electric car will become a true flagship of the Swedish manufacturer. A model that in the range itself will be positioned directly as the 100% electric alternative to the fireproof, luxurious and popular Volvo XC90.
The new Volvo EX90 will boast technological equipment. As its coming-out approaches, the company is unraveling the main keys. Now, Volvo has confirmed a most interesting issue that is directly related to the charging process. The new EX90 will be the first Volvo prepared for bidirectional chargingwith all the advantages that this entails.
Volvo EX90, an electric SUV prepared for bidirectional charging
Bidirectional charging, according to Volvo, will play a leading role in making energy consumption cheaper, more efficient and, above all, sustainable. Along with smart charging capabilities to be incorporated into Volvo’s smartphone app, the EX90 will allow you to charge your vehicle when network demand and prices are low. Something that usually happens when more renewable sources are used in the energy mix.
As soon as the bidirectional charging of the EX90 is available, the energy stored in the vehicle’s battery can be used to generate electricity for our home or other electrical devices. The vehicle can even transfer part of its load to other compatible Volvos if necessary.
When all the available charging process will be automatic and will be managed entirely through the smart charging function of the mobile application. Depending on the specific rules of each energy market, bidirectional charging could also allow customers to support the electricity grid in different ways. For example, they could consume more energy during hours when there is a surplus of renewable energy or they could resell the energy generated during peak consumption hours.
The new Volvo EX90 as a key piece to reduce the electricity bill
Volvo places particular emphasis on the benefits of being able to use the energy stored in the car battery that was accumulated with cheaper electricity, to use it in the time slots when prices are higher. The company plans to offer the necessary hardware to start using the two-way charging features, including a home energy management system and a Wallbox-type wall charging point.
In new generation electric cars, V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid), V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) technologies are a key aspect that will facilitate the charging process and, as has been previously mentioned, to make a more efficient and ecological use of energy.
When will it be presented? The launch of the EX90 is just around the corner. The debut in society of the new Volvo electric vehicle will take place on November 9, 2022.
