According to the page of the Argentine government, the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP), through the General Tax Directorate (DGI) and the General Customs Directorate (DGA) dismantled in a joint mega operation with the Attorney General of the province of Buenos Aires and the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires a clandestine cryptocurrency farm that operated with cables stolen from the Quilmes district.
As reported in said procedures that consisted of 70 raids, 40 people were arrestedwithin the framework of a massive initiative against cyber scams that generated an economic loss of 50 million pesos, 2 million dollars and where in addition the theft of electrical energy would be investigated.
It should be noted that the Federal Administration of Public Revenues began to carry out inspection and control tasks over the digital assets sector. In this sense, the information crossings of the specialized areas of the AFIP made it possible to detect undeclared cryptocurrency farms in different parts of the country based on high consumption of electrical energy.
In turn, the Argentine government also reported that a material shed allegedly used for cryptocurrency mining was located in the operation, with a large number of video cards along with the racks and sources required for their connection and also cables and different types of connectors that would presumably be used to reduce the high operating costs of the activity by stealing electricity.
