One Male Condom is the name under which the first condom designed specifically for use during anal sex will be marketed. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already authorized it in the hope that it will help reduce cases of HIV and other STDs. And it is that the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases during anal intercourse is significantly higher than during vaginal intercourse.
The effectiveness of this new condom has been proven through a study involving men between 18 and 54 years old. Of these, 252 maintained homosexual relations and another 252, heterosexual. Total, condom defects were detected in 0.68% of anal sex cases and 1.89% during vaginal intercourse.
In the past, other attempts had been frustrated by error rates above 5%. Thus, this condom manufactured by the company Global Protection Corp, will hit the market tested and labeled for anal sex for the first time. It will be available in three different versions: standard, slim and fitted and there will be 54 different sizes.
The good results offered by this product are due, above all, to the use of an adapted lubricant, which reduces friction. As explained by the Planned Parenthood organization, if you have anal sex, using lubricants is especially important. And it is that, Unlike the vagina, the anus does not lubricate itself.. Without lubricant, sex in this area can be very painful and even dangerous because it causes irritation and tears in the anus and rectum, which increases the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
In a statement, Davin Wedel, president and founder of Global Protection Corp, commented how “most people would be surprised if they knew that condoms are not approved for anal sex“. At least, from now on, we can already begin to formulate this statement in the past tense.
